Chimney services for Aurora homes

Open fireplaces, wood stoves, inserts and gas appliances, brick stacks and metal flue pipes: we sweep, inspect, clean and repair the whole system that carries the smoke out of your house.

Four parts that take the weather

Rain, snow, wind and animals all arrive at the top of the chimney first. These four parts decide whether they get any further.

  1. The lid or capCovers the flue so rain, snow, leaves and birds stay out, while the mesh lets smoke through and holds sparks back.
  2. The crownThe mortar or concrete top of the brick. Once it cracks, every rain soaks straight down into the stack.
  3. The brickBrick takes in water and lets it out again. When it cannot dry, winter freezes push its face off.
  4. The mortar jointsThe weakest part of the wall. Open joints let water behind the brick, and that is where most masonry repairs begin.

Chimney sweep

A chimney sweep removes the creosote and soot that wood smoke leaves on the inside of the flue. We sweep open fireplaces, wood stoves and inserts, including the connector pipe between a stove and its chimney, and check the cap and damper while the flue is open.

Chimney repair

Chimney repair puts back the parts that keep weather out of the flue and the masonry. We replace rusted caps, lids and metal flue pipes, seal or rebuild crowns, repair flashing and repoint or replace brick, on masonry chimneys and on factory-built chases alike.

Chimney inspection

A chimney inspection is a methodical check of the parts that keep fire and smoke where they belong: cap, crown, flashing, masonry or metal flue, liner, damper, smoke chamber and firebox, and the stove or insert if you have one. We follow the inspection levels of NFPA 211.

Chimney cleaning

Chimney cleaning clears a chimney or vent of whatever is blocking or fouling it: soot and creosote, nests and leaves, rust and debris. We clean wood-burning chimneys, gas fireplace vents, caps and spark screens, and the smoke chamber and firebox below.
